The Monitoring Inbox is where you will find all articles picked up, which match your keyword searches. This module then allows you to look through this coverage in more detail and analyse the data using set metrics.

This guide will provide you with ways of looking through your coverage in order to analyse or look through it later:

Firstly, navigate to the module:

There are several ways of filtering and looking through your coverage. All filters are down the left hand side of the screen.

Selecting a Date range

Before we take a look at the filtering options, the first step would be to select the date range you wish to search.

The platform will default to the last 3 months, but clicking 'Select Date' on the top right of your screen will give you more options of date ranges or custom date selection:

NB: Remember, coverage in your account will only go back as far as when we first starting tracking coverage for you.

Refine

Once you select a date range the 'Refine' button will provide you with an overview of your current set of results >

Initial filtering using 'Keyword Search'

This option enables you to either use keywords in each of the search boxes, OR by using Boolean.

  1. This first box indicates you can enter multiple keywords or phrases by typing and pressing Enter after each. The platform will then find articles which have any of these keywords within.

  2. This box allows you to make sure that the article at the very least mentions these words or phrases. You can add more than one here too, but that may be a little too specific for ALL words and phrases to be present.

  3. Exclude literally means the platform will not show you results if this/these word/phrases are present.

  4. This forth option allows you to choose WHERE the platform is looking for all of the above words and phrases. There are options here for either Headline or Body, or both.

An example using the keyword options is below. Please note the results will appear on the right hand side and the keywords located, will be highlighted in bold:

Switching to 'Boolean Mode' Search

If you click 'Boolean Mode', this will then allow you to either type Boolean code yourself, or tweak a Boolean which has automatically transferred from the keywords search:

  1. This is the area you can populate with your own Boolean string, if you require assistance or help with writing Boolean, click HERE for a short guide. If you have completed the Keywords Search and then clicked to Boolean Mode, this will transpose your keywords into Boolean.

  2. The Validate button will tell you if the Boolean string you have entered works, if it is missing brackets or operators etc.

  3. Run; will run the Boolean and show results on the right hand side.

  4. As above the options to search within just a headline, or just body, or both is available.

Further Filters

Headline + Date + Outlet: This option is usually best used for online articles which have gone live and then been updated over time.

Focus - Allows a choice of e.g. Local, Regional, National, International.

Creating Saved Searches

Saved searches allow the user to pre-set filters in the platform. At the click of just a few buttons allows you to look up the most recent content for the search selected.

To create a new saved search, firstly use the filters as you usually would to locate content. Once this has been done, select the "Create" button on the top left of the screen (seen in the screenshot below:

Type in the name of the search and click "Save".

Once the search has been saved, the next time you visit the platform and wish to bring up coverage using the same searching options, click "Load" on the top left and select the saved search to load. This will then bring up the results of your desired search. Please also note that these searches work well when the date is open ended. Then the search will bring up everything since the starting date, therefore including all the new coverage.

The filters of this saved search is then also available to base your alerts on.
