Further information on what we provide from a Social Media capacity on the Vuelio Platform

Written by Jonathan Holland

You can monitor social media coverage in the Monitoring Inbox Module on Vuelio. Below is the list of social media types available on Vuelio, what we collect and any special rules needed for each type:

Blogs

A blog site is typically a personal or informal site created by a single author or small group of authors. The content is presented in a top-down manner, consisting of chronologically separated posts, often displayed in a running, single column.

Multi-author blogs are also common, with posts written by large numbers of authors and professionally edited. Sites from newspapers, other media outlets, universities, think tanks, advocacy groups, and similar institutions are common.

Blogs are usually managed using authoring tools (e.g. WordPress, TypePad) and may or may not be hosted on a blogging platform (e.g. Blogger, Tumblr, Medium or Ameba).

What Do We Collect?

  • The Post - we collect the physical post itself.

Other Special Rules?

To be included in our collection, blogs must meet certain criteria

  • A blog MUST have a valid RSS/Atom feed with full or partial text of the most recent blog posts.

  • Feeds that contain only post titles are not eligible for coverage.

  • The blog should publish original posts, which are not determined to be spam, adult, aggregated (originating from another source/linked content), downloads, or nonsensical material.

Tumblr

Popular blog site where users can make various posts and follow other users within different fandoms, topics, etc.

What Do We Collect?

  • The Post - we collect the content of the Tumblr post.

Other Special Rules?

  • See special rules above for Blogs.

Facebook

Facebook is a popular social media site where users can share photos, videos, and other content on their timelines, on public/private pages, and in groups.

How it works:

  • Panel search – allows us to monitor specific pages, either all activity on the page or selected keywords

  • Topic/Keyword search – allows us to search for keywords across all public pages that we monitor

What Do We Collect?

  • Public Pages Only - We cannot collect data from private Facebook pages, profiles, groups, or event pages.

  • Post - We collect the content of the post.

  • Comment Count - For Topic searches, we do not show any data for comments.

  • Audience Comments: Panel Search Only - On Panel searches, we are able to collect the actual comments.

Forums

Forums or message boards are online discussion sites where people can participate in conversations in the form of posted messages. The conversations are typically organised in a hierarchical or tree-like structure. There can be multiple forums or sub-forums on a site, usually covering specific topics. Conversations are started by posting to a forum. Other users can then reply, and the ensuing discussion is commonly referred to as a “thread”.

What Do We Collect?

The Post - We collect the content of the post.

Other Special Rules?

  • Authors cannot be excluded from data pulls, only keywords.

  • Nearly all sources collected in Forums have the characteristics defined above.

Instagram

Photo/Video-based social media site with an emphasis on visual content, "stories" that contain streams of posts that expire after a set window, and hashtags that allow for users to get exposure for their public posts globally by keyword.

How it works:

  • Instagram works by tracking keywords, hashtags and tagged mentions.

What Do We Collect?

  • Posts - we collect the Instagram post data.

  • Post Comment Text - only available for Instagram Tagged Media content.

  • Captions - caption text in the post itself.

Threads

Instagram's text app for sharing text updates and joining public conversations.

What Do We Collect?

  • Original Posts

  • Replies

  • Reposts

  • Quotes

Other Special Rules?

  • Engagements

    • We show the total number of engagements the post has collected, but we'll only collect the engagements that match the search's query.

Pinterest

Pinterest is an image-sharing and social media service designed to enable saving and discovery of information, specifically "ideas" on the internet using images, animated GIFs, and videos, in the form of pinboards.

What Do We Collect?

  • a regular pin

  • an article pin

  • a product pin

  • a recipe pin

For each pin, you’ll be getting:

  • Pin Information: The information we collect includes the image, the pin description, the date and time the pin was published, the language of the description, and the URL that points to the pin on Pinterest.

  • Author Information: The author of a pin is any user who saves or repins a pin to one of their boards on Pinterest; therefore, not necessarily the “creator”. We provide the following info about that user: author name, username, author bio, location, number of followers, number of following, and, where possible, their gender, which is inferred from the author name.

Reviews

Definition: User-created posts from various sources often give a rating for products, stores, services, etc.

What Do We Collect?

  • The Review - we collect the physical review itself.

Other Special Rules?

  • Review Location is based on the review site's domain location, not the author's location.

  • Reviews rarely contain the name of the company in the review itself. This means it's rather difficult to search for all reviews for a particular company across review sites.

  • While some sites do contain metadata that indicates what company they are for, thus allowing us to collect them, more often than not, reviews will not be collected unless the keyword you are looking for is mentioned explicitly within the review body or title.

  • Review Sites must meet certain requirements to be included in our collection. Check out the link to see those requirements.

  • Actual Video Post - We collect the actual video from the site. This is not transcribed.

  • Video Caption - the caption underneath the video.

  • Actual Comments - We collect the actual comments from the video.

X (Formerly Twitter)

Social media site designed around small, fast posting. Users can like and retweet (share), as well as reply to other users' tweets.

What Do We Collect?

  • Tweets - We collect original tweets.

  • Retweets - Collected as separate engagements (RT will be stated in the Headline).

  • Quote Tweets

  • Replies - We Collect All Tweet Replies in real-time, and Matching Tweet Replies in historics.

Other Special Rules?

Number-Only Hashtags: Because of how hashtags function on Twitter, we cannot search for hashtags that are just a number. e.g. If you wanted to search for data about "Jackie Robinson" and his player number "#42", you would not be able to search for instances of #42, as it would collect any mention of the number 42 anywhere on Twitter. For instance, "I ate 42 eggs today" would be collected by searching for "#42".
